Chennai: Noting the emerging importance of Tamil Nadu, particularly Chennai, as a significant eCommerce centre for B2B motor transactions, leading online motors marketplace eBay India Motors on 17 May said it plans to increase awareness of the platforms and opportunities the firm offered for corporates and dealers.

“In a fragmented used vehicle market like India we have been successful in addressing the needs of the corporates and dealers through the creation of a robust and scalable platform which provides a one stop shop for transparent sale of all makes and types of used vehicles across the country,” a Director of the firm Amit Bhartiya today, said.

He said about 1000 dealer-entrepreneurs, representing about 12.5% of those using the platform for transactions, were from Tamil Nadu, making it an emerging market for eCommerce development.

On any given day about 600 vehicles, including tractors, commercial vehicles, four wheelers and two wheelers, were auctioned on the platform and a vehicle was sold every five minutes, he claimed adding since its inception in August 2002 about 1,50,000 vehicles had been sold by the firm.

Stating that his company had over 8000 registered dealers spread across 225 cities in the country, he said the platform provided a level playing field to all buyers, thereby eliminating intermediary costs alongwith a reduction in holding costs and turnaround time.

Besides,motor vehicles, eBay offered millions of items for sale on any given day, he said, adding, the firm was considering trading in three-wheelers for which test marketing had commenced.
