New Delhi: Technology and not globalization is to blame for the widening gap between the rich and the poor, according to new research from the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) World Economic Outlook.

While technology has boosted economic growth, globalization in the form of foreign direct investment, has caused rising inequality. Analysts at IMF suggest that countries should not shy away from adopting new technology as this would only undermine rising living standards around the world. Instead, implement new policies to ensure that technology encompasses as many individuals as possible via better access to education and affordable healthcare.

IMF’s forecasts for global growth will be released on 17 October, 2007, two days prior to World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings
