The institutes involved in the project also plan to develop support facilities to enable two-way communication between students who access the material and the institutes that create the courseware.

NPTEL may consider employing retired faculty members to do so.

Good article. The combination of good content [there is great abundance in Wiki and Rice to name a few] and ease of access with flexible copyright licensing mechanism [such as CC] must be at the heart of India's on-line educational structure in terms of reaching out to millions of interested learners.

IITs have decided to open their content in form of videos ,text etc. This 110 crore project will make sure that anybody with a decent internet connection can watch these lectures, solve classroom assignments or get text based notes. The project is in lines of MIT OCW which opened their entire courseware including lectures in video formats, text based material few years back. Its not just IITs but Universia which is a consortium of latin american and spanish universities who are moving towards open content based on the same model. By 2020,I think any educational organization with closed copyright content wil die due to the availability of alternate high quality ,adaptive open content. I see raised eyebrows when I tell tutoring and education companies in Asia to open their content if they want to gain leadership positions for global exams like GMAT,SAT or local exams like CAT or IIT JEE

Why do you need Rs. 20.5 Crores to record 250 lectures and upload to youtube. I can probably do this in Rs. 10 Lakhs. This is a total waste of resources, professors time and money

I totally agree with you. With this amount, they can open 100 such new courses and facilities. I think 19.9 crores are enough to fill their pockets

This is very good initiative. But some institute like mine (Government College of Engg Amravati-444604 M.S) have blocked this site. This is clearly against policies of Govt and an non academic decision by Principal. Please help the students and faculty of this Institute
