New Delhi: Indonesia’s anti-dumping authority has recommended imposition of dumping duties against five countries, including India, for shipping hot-rolled coils to that country after complaints by local steel makers.

“Indonesia’s Anti Dumping Committee, in its final report on the anti-dumping investigation against hot-rolled coil imports from five countries, has recommended the imposition of dumping duties of up to 56.51%,” the Steel Business Briefing reported, quoting a Jakarta-based industry source.

The report recommends dumping margins against imports from China of 0-42.58%, India 12.95-56.51%, Russia 5.58-49.47%, Taiwan 0-53.39% and Thailand 7.52-49.61%. The recommended duties will now be sent to the ministry of finance for a final determination as early as next month, the report said.

Last month, Indonesian news agency Antara reported that Essar Group may shelve plans to construct a $1.9 billion (Rs7,486 crore) steel plant in Indonesia following an adverse ruling by the country’s anti-dumping authority.

It said PT Essar Indonesia, the local unit of the Indian firm, will postpone construction of the plant.
