Polo in India, is a just-released, 192-pager by polo player and commentator Jaisal Singh, and photo researcher and editor Priya Kapoor.

The duo has researched the origins of the game, its long history in India and relationship with Indian royalty. In the foreword, Yuvraj Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur, who was badly injured in a 2005 polo accident (and is still under rehabilitation) says, “I miss polo… the horses, the riding, the people…the winning. But when I look back at the fifteen years of good polo given me, I have no regret.

Images from various private collections make the book enjoyable to flip through, even if you don’t know one end of a mallet from the other.

The polo season in India starts in October and continues till April.
