The day belonged to man-of-the-match Sanath Jayasuriya, whose scintillating knock of 114 off 48 balls saw the Mumbai Indians reach the target of 156 runs set by Dhoni’s lads with 5.1 overs to spare.
Chennai had their moments of brilliance with S. Badrinath hammering 53 off 32 balls with seven fours and two sixes, while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni made an unbeaten 43 in 35 balls with six fours and a six.
Mumbai Indians’ nine-wicket win is their biggest victory-margin in the IPL. Of the eight matches played by Mumbai, they have won four and lost four. Chennai have won six and lost four of 10 matches.
