For all you Batman fans, The Dark Knight is releasing this friday. It’s predecessor, Batman Begins ranked as one of the “all time highest grossing movies worldwide” when it was released in 2005.

By and large, superhero movies do phenomenally well in India. When Spiderman (2005) was released in India, it grossed Rs55 crore, which is pretty impressive for a Hollywood movie. So what appeal do superhero movies, such as Superman, Spiderman, and Batman have in India? “It’s their larger than life character,” says Shruti Bajpai, country manager, HBO Asia. “People love the action, the good versus evil story line, and the fact that it’s not complicated,” she says. The Dark Knight has been dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
