New Delhi: The Asian Development Bank, or ADB, will help Nepal launch a pilot project to rehabilitate conflict-affected children and their families in five districts that suffered the most during more than a decade of civil war.

The $2 million (Rs9.16 crore) pilot will cover Rolpa, Rukum, Achham, Banke and Dang districts. If it is successful, the programme will be extended across the country.

“With the support of ADB, we are introducing a specific programme for the conflict-affected children and their families,” said Punya P. Neupane, secretary in the ministry of women, children and social welfare, which is partnering with the aid agency to launch the project.

“Our working approach is to build partnership with civil society organizations and United Nations agencies.”

Under the project, housing, health care and education facilities will be provided in the districts.

Nepal had seen violent conflicts from 1996 when Maoists took arms against the monarchy.

The king was dethroned this year, after which the Maoists formed a government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
