Bokaro (Jharkhand): Jaypee Cements said that it would begin construction work for the upcoming cement factory here only after getting security assurance from the administration and local villagers.

Company’s Vice-President Ashok Sharma said: “We have decided to start work to set up the cement factory in November if we get a guarantee on cooperation from the villagers and the district administration.”

“Jaypee Cements is worried over security after villagers on Thursday set on fire property at Baruatand in Bokaro,” Sharma said, adding that the damaged property could run into crores of rupees.

Twelve persons were arrested on Friday in connection with the incident.

A large number of villagers also came out in support of the factory and asked the company authorities to start work.

“The construction work will restart only after the company Chairman’s visit to the area. He will hold talks with the administration and villagers,” Sharma said.

In a joint venture with Bokaro Steel Plant, Jaypee Cements acquired 50 acre land at Baruatand, about 30 km from here, and started construction work of the plant.
