London: Britain’s unemployment rate rose to 5.8% or 1.82 million unemployed in the three months to September, as the economic slowdown hit the job market, official figures showed on Wednesday.

The rate rose from 5.4% in the previous quarter, Britain’s Office for National Statistics said.

The total number of unemployed people in Britain is now the highest it has been in more than a decade.
