New Delhi: HT Media Ltd announced key changes in the editorial leadership team of Mint, naming managing editor R. Sukumar to the position of editor, which he will take over from Raju Narisetti, effective 1 January. Mint’s editorial pages editor Niranjan Rajadhyaksha will become managing editor while still retaining his prior responsibilities, said HT Media chief executive Rajiv Verma in a Friday memo.

Sukumar, 39, will report to Verma. Narisetti will become an advisor to HT Media, joining an outside advisory team that includes Dipak Jain, dean of the Kellogg business school at Northwestern University, and Nigel Oakins, founder of Oakins Media Partners in Bangkok, who offer “strategic inputs from time-to-time”, Verma said.

Sukumar, who joined HT Media in 2006, is a 14-year veteran of business journalism and was previously managing editor of ‘Business Today’ magazine. Rajadhyaksha, who also joined HT Media in 2006, has 20 years experience in business journalism and was previously deputy editor of ‘Business World’ magazine.

HT Media said Mint, which is available in five Indian cities, has a total daily readership of 217,000 according to the recent Indian Readership Survey Round 2 data, while its online offering, Livemint.com, has 1.6 million unique users. Mint was launched in February 2007 with a stated mission “to serve as an unbiased andclear-minded chronicler of theIndian dream”.

Raju must surely be going on to something much bigger(larger) and better. While Raju - the Editor might move on, we ceratinly hope the Romantic Realist will stay with us - even if at a different address. No doubt Sukumar, Niranjan and the entire MINT Team ( whom Raju had personally 'hand-picked' - not in the same sense as how a liquor baron turned wannabe airline tycoon had famously gone about in selecting his cabin staff) would do a great job - Raju will always be remembered not just for creating one of the finest editorial product of our time - but for the high editorial standards he set - with a "refreshing clarity" (read 'transparency')on editorial policy, values which he was seen to live by. he couldn't have chosen a better time to pass on the mantle to most deserving younger colleagues... again setting a new precedent of sorts DS@www.indianprint.blogspot.com
