Hyderabad: After his first night in a prison cell, Satyam Computer Services Ltd founder B. Ramalinga Raju woke up to have a brief morning walk in the jail premises followed by a breakfast of pulihora, or tamarind rice.

Later in the afternoon, Raju complained of chest pain and, according to K. Newton, superintendent of the Chanchalguda Central Prison, a jail doctor attended to him. Raju was all right after the treatment, Newton said.

Raju skipped lunch, but had bread and tea in the afternoon and had an hour-long discussion with brother Rama, according to prison officials who did not want to be named. The jail serves chicken curry, rice and rasam on Sundays, but it was not known whether Raju had any of it.

During the day, Raju’s relatives went to the jail, but prison officials declined their request to meet him because the rules do not allow such visits on a Sunday.

According to the jail manual, prison inmates are to be given 650g of rice, 250g of vegetable curry and 125g of dal thrice a day. A prison official said the Raju brothers were given a blanket and a bed-sheet in the cell. They asked for and were given newspapers.

The brothers are housed in a barrack with 26 other persons remanded to judicial custody, according to the official. Jail authorities said there were strict instructions from the state government that no special treatment should be extended to the Raju brothers, who were shifted to the jail on Saturday after their arrest on Friday.

The instructions were given in the light of criticism that jail officials had doled out favours to Nagarjuna Finance Ltd promoter K.S. Raju, who was under judicial custody after the firm defaulted on payments to depositors to the tune of Rs100 crore.

Jail authorities had permitted K.S. Raju to shift to a city hospital on medical grounds, but the government, responding to criticism, replaced the prison’s superintendent with Newton.

Srinivas Vadlamani, the chief financial officer of Satyam, who was produced before a magistrate and remanded to custody till 24 January on Sunday, will now be a fellow prison inmate of the Raju brothers and lodged in the same barrack.

Hi All, This is not the treatment deserved by the founder of Satyam and the person who created 53,000 jobs across the globe and multi-millionaire. He deserves a much better treatment. Its not at all fair from the andra govt. to be so brutal on him. Yes he has done the fault, but he tried his level best to save the company and his moves went in vain.

This is a fuc**** government,if any political do the same thing, they will treat that politician as a VIP who don't have at least one VIP quality. Ramalinga raju is a person who has given more jobs and done so much social service with his own money in godhavri district and he only started the 108 service . Is this a way to treat him?

This is not the way to treat somebody who was considered a tech titan just a month ago. Ramalinga Raju is 1000 times more honest than the current CM and half the cowards like Murthy who are passing judgement on a man yet to even have his day in court. Why are the criminals like Ram M., Ravi B., Virender, Hari, Auditors, former directors like Prabhat etc. not being charge-sheeted for their active collusion in this scam? Why are they still creating strategy and managing execution? Haven't these cheats done enough damage?

I think all criminals should be treated the same way, whatever they may be masquerading as before they are caught. His lies led to thousands of investors losing their hard earned money. His harsh treatment should be a lesson to those attempting fraud.

Srihari & Govind - get a clue, will you? Raju is a suspect in fraud and should be treated as such. It doesn't matter even if he created thousands of jobs - he is on the wrong side of the law. That's all that matters.

Exactly !!! I do accept that he definitely dont deserve such kind of treatment. He is infact the creator of Satyam imagine since the day he founded Satyam there have been huge number of people working in & feeding thier back & bully. Moreover its simple fact that a person who is creator of Satyam would never dream to destroy it. He tried a lot which finally ditched him one day.Considering such persons are very rare in this world .....

Yes I do agree to it that he needs a better treatment. He has done a lot of good things for the people of AP. He has done a lot of charity to the needy in AP, setting up street lights in villages and lot of good things. This is India 4 u. The politicians enjoy and others need to suffer.

Atleast Raju had the guts to tell that he was wrong.....think of our politicians in this scenario....politicians would have told " This is a Conspiracy against Me" & then acted asthough they got chest pain & get admitted to a hospital. Treat Raju with respect...afterall he is the reason for 53000 people's eating their daily bread before the scam

Many of us have a soft corner towards Ramalinga Raju for creating 53,000 jobs but the fact lies within that lakhs of investors lost money to a tune of thousands of crores. The way the bogus brothers being treated is far decent. They deserve to be treated as the least priviledged.
