New Delhi: The government is believed to have received clearance from the Election Commission for giving a salary hike to public sector officers, improving upon the emoluments recommended by the pay revision committee last year.

Tomorrow, the Cabinet may consider merging the dearness allowance of about four lakh officers of the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) with the basic salary under a formula that will hike their pay by about 9%, sources said.

The weight of D A recommended by the pay revision committee and notified by the government in November 2008, was opposed by the officers, particularly among the oil sector PSUs, who struck work in January.

The Group of Ministers, headed by home minister P Chidambaram, revisited the issue recommending improvement upon the package offered by the committee.

Sources said while the proposal involve financial implications, the poll panel has given a go-ahead advising the government not to publicise the issue.

The Justice Jagannada Rao committee had recommended basic monthly pay ranging between Rs65,000-Rs75,000 for below the board level executives.

More peanuts in the offing. Don't accept unless it is the Rao Committee recommendations ditto. Vote this cheats out for destroying the aspirations of hard working, responsible and simple PSU officers.

This govt. has done everything to waste the expertise of the Hon'ble Justice Rao Committee report, to almost nullify the report by a handful of bureacrats in the name of Committee of Secretaries within a few days and then notify it thro' DPE after approval of the cabinet. Now, it has blown its hollow trumpet by hiking a mere 9% in the name of improving the earlier recommendations. Isit for this reason only that the GoM has taken time of more than 100 days against its committed 30 days?
