Things usually get out of hand during elections in India. In Tamil Nadu, for example, it is being held by politicians of different persuasions that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief V. Prabhakaran is not a terrorist and that Tamils of Sri Lanka should get a separate homeland. It would be easy to dismiss this as election rhetoric but for the fact that our southern flank poses a serious security challenge now.

On Sunday, the LTTE declared a unilateral ceasefire; the Sri Lankan government has rejected that. While the latter is sure to wipe out the LTTE, what should alarm India is that it has been egged on by China. “Both Nepal and Sri Lanka are friendly to China. We support the efforts of their governments to safeguard national integrity while ensuring security and political stability,” Jiang Yu, a Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman told reporters on 21 April.

New Delhi seems to have taken note. On Friday, Union home minister P. Chidambaram told the Hindustan Times that “China is fishing in troubled waters. That is a lone, discordant voice among all of the global community.”

While India has for long argued that Sri Lanka’s territorial integrity is inviolable, it is no secret that relations between the two countries have been frosty at times. The LTTE’s decimation as a military factor in the region and China’s search for strategic foothold in the Indian Ocean (as highlighted recently by Robert D. Kaplan in his recent Foreign Affairs article “Center Stage for the 21st Century”) are two factors that should not be seen in isolation. While it may seem far-fetched that China is about to secure military facilities in Sri Lanka, the possibility cannot be ruled out.

For long, India has enjoyed a “security dividend” on its southern flank. All the major security issues have lain on the northern and eastern flanks of the country. After the military defeat of the LTTE, that is no longer true.

Beyond these narrow requirements is, however, the issue of strategic choices to be made in the Indian Ocean littoral by India. China has already said that the Indian Ocean does not “belong” to India. It could be argued in a similar vein that the South China Sea does not belong to China. But merely saying that will not help. China is sure to move its military assets, its modern submarine fleet and warships, to secure its interests. The question that needs to be addressed is, where does a country such as Sri Lanka, that is neither friendly nor hostile to India, fit in this equation?

If Sri Lanka reciprocates Chinese help by allowing military bases, it would be only correct to do so. It is not China's fault that India cannot make up its mind whether LTTE is a terrorist organization or not. In any case, how does it matter if China encircles India, after all, aren't "Hindi-Chini bhai-bhai"? LOL.

Takeover of 35% share of NTT in Sri Lanka Telecom by Global Telecom Holdings in 2008 April 1 - This is owned by Malaysian Billionaire T.Ananda Krishnan, for whom there are abundant proofs that point to him as the Number One "Economic Hit Man" of China in the Indian Ocean region - This takeover was personally influenced by Rajapakse Brothers 5. I am a US based private investor, an admirer of India, but also a supporter of Sri Lanka that has good relations with all nations. Several Indian, Japanese, Chinese, US and European countries have invested in Sri Lanka. It is not fair to pick on China who has been a historical trading partner and loyal friend of Sri Lanka for generations.

Coerceive deplomacy of India is pushing it's neighbours towards the grip of China. If a cat is beaten by closing door, then the cat have two option, Either to counterattack or to move outside through window. India is devicing terror and coerceive diplomacy with it's neighbour due to which non of the neighbours are India's friend. They are reluctantly forced to go in the grip of China due to India's false deeds. To fuel the situation, BJP is advocating for muscular foreign policy. India should realised that china is building strategic port in Burma, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka to guard Indian ocean and encircle its asian rival India. Similarly China is intending to gain strategic benifit from the stratatigically significant geography of Nepal. Therefore, it is high time for the Indian strategist to reform it BLACK image among the people of neighbour country. If the things go on present way, India's neighbour will certainly pose a serious security threat to India. From Kathmandu, Nepal

If LTTE is a terrorist outfit, the Srilankan Army and Government which has killed journalists first and now more than 20000 innocent civilians according to UNHRC, what do we call them ? We can afford to ignore this and remain silent, but the history tells us a different story and truth can not be burried like the innocent people nor it can be burned and dissolved and thrown in to the sea. If it can be done so, then there is no hope for humanity. Indian position is pitiable, no dignity no righteouness, no international respect. This is going to be the great Indian Fall. They are trapped between China and Rajapakhe. Cowardice to the core.
