It was a tough, mean recruitment season at Indian B-schools, where graduates have been used to picking and choosing between plum job offers at fancy salaries during the years when the economy was on a roll.

As the US battled an unprecedented financial maelstrom that shook economies across the globe, including India, top Wall Street recruiters stayed away from on-campus interviews, average salaries fell and the placements season dragged on as B-schools struggled to find jobs for even the best and the brightest.

Pre-placement offers were scarce, unlike last year when almost 30% of the class at many institutes were hired before they graduated,according to MBA community portal CoolAvenues.com, which provided the scorecard of Placements 2009 exclusively to Mint.
