New Delhi: The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, has accused Union home minister P. Chidambaram of leaking the contents of the letter sent by his ministry to Sushma Swaraj inviting her to discuss the issue of BJP member of Parliament Varun Gandhi’s security .

“It is breach of propriety—leaking the contents of the letter Chidambaram wrote to me in response to the issue of Varun’s security raised in Lok Sabha by me yesterday (Tuesday),” Swaraj, deputy leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, told reporters. “Chidambaram, in the letter marked ‘confidential’, had invited me for a one-to-one meeting on the matter, saying such sensitive issues cannot be discussed in an open forum, but I was surprised to see the contents of the letter in the media by afternoon,” she added.

Responding to the Swaraj’s statement that Varun Gandhi did not get “satisfactory” and “logical” response from him after seeking upgraded security, Chidambaram said the government has acted on the letter given by Varun Gandhi on 20 March.
