Tokyo / Stockholm: Sony Corp. needs to extend financial support to Sony Ericsson, its mobile phone handset joint venture with Ericsson, Sony chief financial officer Nobuyuki Oneda said on Thursday.
In response to a question at a results briefing about the mobile phone venture, Oneda also said Sony would cooperate with Ericsson on any financial backing, which could be in the form of fresh investment or a loan from its parent firms or banks.
Ericsson reiterated it will continue to support the loss-making joint venture, but did not give further details.
“We will remain committed to the jv and if necessary including financial support,” Ericsson spokesman Fredrik Hallstan wrote in an e-mail to Reuters.
