New Delhi: The successor to former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor Rakesh Mohan’s post is likely to be decided by early next month, with eight-nine prominent economists in the reckoning, a government official said.
“We only want an economist as a deputy governor since we already have an Indian Administrative Service officer and a banker at RBI now,” said the official who did not want to be identified. “Prominent economists including chief economic adviser Arvind Virmani, JPMorgan India chief economist Jahangir Aziz and Standard and Poor’s Subir Gokarn are among those in the reckoning.”
