Mumbai: With just over two months to go before Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Swine Flu has taken its toll on political activity in the state, where six of the eight H1N1 deaths in the country have taken place.

Congress party activists have been asked “not to gather in large numbers around AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh,” who is touring the state.

“Activists have been informed not to gather in large numbers as Singh would be meeting select party functionaries,” Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary Sanjay Dutt said.

“This step has been taken in view of the precautions to be taken in light of Swine Flu,” Dutt said.

Singh, who is also AICC observer for Maharashtra for the elections, is in Pune today, meeting senior party functionaries and elected representatives to assess Congress prospects in the backdrop of delimitation of constituencies.

The senior Congress leader is scheduled to tour 12 Lok Sabha constituencies and meet party functionaries from the Assembly segments of these constituencies, including Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, Latur and Nagpur.
