Today we talk about the issue of Internet security and specifically about Identity theft on the Internet. How do you know a website is what it claims to be and how do you trust a website with your personal information? Is there a way to differentiate an original site from one that hosts malicious content?

To answer these questions, we talk to Gautam Jayaraman of Uniken, who is building a national identity repository from India and developing a tool to help users identify original from fraudulent websites.

Kiran on one part you are true that, we just cant have a complete privacy regarding our personal data. For instance, recently I'd purchased a laptop from dell, which got damaged. Dell sent me a new laptop and asked me to sent the damage one when the new one arrives. Everything happen as planed expect for the transit time during which next laptop was being shipped to me I saw an exact amount 'pending' balance on my credit card statement which I paid to buy the earlier. Now shouldnt my credit card info should have been distroyed as soon as I bought the first one. Though the pending status was then canceled as soon as I gave them the damage piece. My concern is.. I should have been asked when they charged for the replacemet order.. So in a way, though my information is not used for any other thing expect for such occassion, but somewhere it is secured in Dell's database. If any one manages to hack that database.. then it will be a problem. And dells website validates all the necessary regulation that are needed for online or while shopping.
