Mumbai: Idea Cellular has tied up with Reuters Market Light to launch an information service targeted at the farmers, to provide them with information that would help them improve production and marketing of their produce.

‘Krishi Voucher´ has been designed to equip farmers with decision-critical information to help them improve both production and marketing of their produce, a release said here on Wednesday.

The service would be available on the private telecom company’s network in Maharashtra and Goa.

Idea subscribers availing of this service will get market prices and arrivals in three markets for each of the two crops chosen by the farmer.

The service, available for a monthly subscription of Rs75, will also give 24-hour local weather forecast relevant to the farmer’s taluka, the release said. Besides, it will give information on best practices for crop production and news impacting agricultural marketing.

“We launched Reuters Market Light in 2007 in India as a business dedicated to address the pain points of farmers. We have continuously improved the service based on our customer feedback. However, rural distribution and marketing remained a challenge,” Reuters Market Light managing director Amit Mehra said.

Farmers can subscribe to the service by calling on a toll free number 58090.
