New Delhi: The auction for third generation, or 3G, spectrum for GSM operators will be held on 7 December and bids will be invited from 26 October to 13 November, the government said in a notice on a department of telecommunications, or DoT, website.

The government will hold the auction for EVDO (CDMA version of 3G) and broadband wireless access two days after the 3G auction.

Winners will have to pay their bid deposit amounts within five days of the closure of the auction and pay the balance after 15 days.

DoT will issue a revised information memorandum on 29 September. It has asked for ownership details of applicants along with compliance certificates so that the bidding process is smooth.

A ministerial panel decided last month on a base price of Rs3,500 crore for a 3G licence. Both Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd have already been allotted 3G spectrum.
