Mumbai: India signed an agreement with the Namibian government on 31 August for access to copper and diamond mines in the African nation, Union mines minister B.K. Handique said on Wednesday in an interview.

The accord is part of India’s policy to secure raw material for the metals industry, Handique said.

Commodity exchange turnover climbs 31%

Mumbai: Turnover on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd and its rivals expanded 31% in the April-August period, led by a surge in trading of farm goods.

Commodities worth Rs27.3 trillion were traded in the five-month period, compared with Rs20.8 trillion a year earlier, the Forward Markets Commission, which regulates the country’s 21 commodity exchanges, said ion its website.
