New Delhi: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, or Icai, responded to Mint’s story, “Icai wings clipped over Satyam scam”, which appeared on 30 September, through a press release which said the title of the story was “incorrect, misleading and without any base”. It further termed the report “unwarranted” and “superfluous”. Without providing further details either in the release or through a letter to Mint’s editor or managing editor, Icai called for a “public apology” from Mint.

In response, Mint’s editor R. Sukumar said that the paper stood by the report and its reporting, and that Icai and its president had been given adequate space in the report to present their views on the subject.
