New Delhi: The Supreme Court, which is hearing a lawsuit over natural gas supply between companies controlled by the billionaire Ambani brothers thrice a week, will hold an additional session on Friday.
Harish Salve, who represents Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), told reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday he expects to conclude arguments on Thursday and the court has accepted a request for the additional session.
Ram Jethmalani, representing Anil Ambani’s Reliance Natural Resources Ltd, expects the government lawyer to present his arguments on 13 November, following which he would take about six working days to plead his case.
RIL is seeking to overturn a lower court order to supply gas to RNRL at 44% less than a price set by the government. The top court hears the lawsuit on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The Supreme Court started hearings on 20 October and arguments started afresh on 5 November after R.V. Raveendran stepped down from the three-judge panel, citing a potential conflict of interest. Raveendran was replaced by justice B. Sudershan Reddy.
The Union government said in a court filing on 1 September its production-sharing contract with RIL must prevail over private sales arrangements.
