A few days ago, the US House of Representatives passed a healthcare bill that President Obama had championed energetically for all of 2009. The process of passing this bill has stimulated intense debate in the United States, and comparisons have inevitably been drawn to healthcare systems in Europe and Asia.

So what exactly does Obama’s bill do? What are the deficiencies in the present healthcare system that the bill hopes to rectify? Once it passes through Congress, what sort of new healthcare regime will it create, and how will that compare to the systems in Europe and what we know in India?

To answer these questions, our guest is Shashwat Sharma, a KPMG India director with extensive experience in the healthcare and health insurance industry.
