Mumbai: Reliance Communications on Friday introduced 1paise per SMS plan taking the tariff war to the data front from voice calls.

The Anil Ambani group company launched a plan under which 1paise will be charged per SMS and at a monthly rental of Rs11, Reliance Communications president Mahesh Prasad said here.

Telecom minister A Raja recently had said telcos need to bring down SMS rates which are currently at 50-60paise per SMS.

Other operators are likely to follow suit.

Reliance Communications stocks were down 1.54% at Rs166.30 in the afternoon trade on the BSE.
