In a year marred by a series of well-publicized scams in both the private and public sectors, the 2011 Edelman Trust Barometer finds that Indians have the least trust in government and the most trust in businesses in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Interestingly, trust in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has risen globally over time. It is now on par with the trust for business in most emerging markets while in developed markets, NGOs are more trusted than businesses indicating a desire for an independent arbiter.

The survey conducted by StrategyOne, a research firm, sampled 5,075 people in 23 countries, and covered trust in four institutions- businesses, government, NGOs and media.
