We expected better from Mr. Chidambaram but it seems after almost 5 years in power, he too has learnt the art of stonewalling and doesn't take kindly to any criticism. As a highly regarded lawyer and ex-finance minister he should know better than anyone else the value of constructive criticism in a democracy but sadly men like him and Dr. Singh who are leading the nation have lost all sense of self-respect and duty to the nation. The PM flashed victory signs after winning the confidence vote a short while back but he must have known in his heart that it was achieved by exchange of money bags and that his attempt to survive at any cost would raise the bar for cooruption in this country. The PM did win the vote but in my opinion, the country ultimately lost by a mile. If people like him do not have the moral courage to spurn power achieved through was illicit means, can we expect anything better from lesser mortals, including his ministers who are like a pack of wolves running after flesh (money).
If Dr. Singh is ever so worried about pleasing Madam Sonia, what lessons will his ministers learn, more of the same. Sycophancy and poor appetite for openness and criticism is nothing new to Congress Party but we thought guys like Chidambaram were more balanced and sensible. Alas! we were so wrong. Does this country have any hope? No wonder, Pakistan is getting bolder every passing day knowing that Indian leaders are corrupt and a bunch of hizras.
