I agree that in most matches in the world cup, bowlers played major part and hence the matches were exciting. I do not agree, however, that this is because of the inherent nature of Twenty20 cricket.
I believe that most of what we saw to be great moments in this world cup were due mainly to two reasons:
1. The conditions in South Africa, especially in Durban. Almost all the interesting games except the final were in Durban. Batsmen friendly conditions might dampen the excitement in 50-over games. They will kill the Twenty20 format.
2. The novelty of the format. Batsmen have not "sorted it" out yet, which they will do soon enough. Then I think the format will become one big slogfest. I think a glimpse of what to expect was there at the end of the final. Needing 54 in 4 overs, Misbah-ul-Haq and Sohail Tanveer smashed 6 sixes in no time. I do agree that RP Singh's tight over played a cruial role there and was essentially the difference. But I tend to think that we will see more and more of brute sixes and less of penetrative bowling.
