Kerala is a land of small holdings called homesteads. Most of the produce coming from these farms are organic, by default. The initiative needed was in assembling, labelling and marketing these products under an organic label. The efforts being done by Sevashram and similar organisations may be helpful in boosting production from these small holdings which were in fact in a neglected state in the recent past due to high input costs and low output prices.
