My quarrel is not with Aakar Patel, who discredits himself. I am not surprised that he writes the way he does. He is after all attempting to further his career and be noticed as a uber liberal, uber secular man of ideas. He is clearly out to impress the paragons of secular virtue, the ‘Masters of Our Universe’, the triumvirate of English News Channels. Do not be surprised if you soon see him as an expert on these channels holding forth on various subjects. My quarrel is with the Mint Editorial Team. In an environment, where Media has been captured by ‘Left Liberals’, your paper has been an island of sanity. Surely, people like Aakar Patel should have no difficulty in finding takers in the Media outside LiveMint? Are you so short on columnists that you should allow your paper to be used by such cheap pamphleteers? Your columns in Lounge are highly personalised opinions of individuals. They tend to be confused and at times set out very silly reasons in defence of their fanciful theories. By and large, it is harmless fun and can be ignored. But Aakar Patel is something else! There is no use attempting to critique a man who is so incorrigible. He is entitled to his views on Advani. But surely editorial balance would demand that a column is not reduced to the level of a political speech! My advice to Patel is that he should aim higher. ‘Expert’ on a TV talk show is too small for his talents. He should enter politics right away. His love for Congress matches his hero’s love for the Family. He is just 39 years old [his online profile informs us], so he should do better than his hero and get himself elected to the Lok Sabha.
