The Boss-Blame game

This is something ingrained in us at a very early age, no? A kid bumps into a table and falls down hurt, and starts crying. The parent consoles the child by slapping the table saying the table is at fault, and that it has been punished. I've seen this so many times, I'm convinced this is where it all starts --- blaming someone or something else for all your misfortunes.
