Why film’s great leveller hasn’t hit television
When you flip from one Hindi entertainment channel to another, can you really tell the difference?

Dear Vir
I have seen a few episodes of two daily soaps (around 2 weeks or so) because i wanted to answer this question which also raised in my mind.
Here is the reason which made me hate these shows
1. The serials start out fine (with a tagline communicating a social message). But after a few episodes this theme is nowhere around except sometimes in the title.
2. These serials are not expressions of true human emotions but show that the protagonist always behaves in a particular way (which is glorified as righteous by making all possible sacrifices, even if this sacrifice gives rise to greater confusion and problem on the whole). The antagonist is always a very intelligent person whose misbehavior and wrong intentions remain hidden from all, in spite of several repetitions.
3. And the most compelling reason is that in such lengthy programs the story line (if there is one) is completely lost in details. Most of the times its not even the writer does not know weather this story will have an end or will suddenly go off air.
In this regard i think that the quality of serials on DD was good as there was a time limit and the story line was in place. I have watched a re telecast of one or 2 such serials. I specially like the ones which were made on short stories by famous writers.
thanks and regards
