I share your sentiments. While driving back from Gurgaon I saw the remnants of two burnt DTC buses bearing the mute testimony of our demented socio-economic fabric.
Young MPs like Sachin Pilot who were feted by the press as the new beacons, were the champions of the recent atrocity. The sheer glee on the faces of young men who burn buses and damage public properties brings back memories of the Taliban goons destroying the Bamiyan statues.
I strongly feel that there is something wrong in our ethos and upbringing which makes us elect representatives to Parliament who do not have basic human decencies. It reflects in every aspect of our lives - eg - Vir Sanghvi's piece in Brunch on the young brats that we breed.
The poll in HT strongly condemns such acts of vandalism by the tacit and overt support of our esteemed politicians. However, as common citizens, we stand by like impotent observers as the same elected representatives commit crimes more heinous than rape and murder in gay abandon.
While I write this piece I admit I am a part of this vast multitude who is actually responsible for this state of affairs. You and I can only vent our anger on paper and go on with our lives while the perpetrators of crimes such as these live in their own ivory towers of glory. I am sure they are proud of what ever they do. Look at it this way - at least they are potent.
