Will farm loan waiver lift UPA’s fortunes?

I am in full agreement with the views of Mr GVL Narsimha Rao that the blanket waiver is a populist measure and may affect the disciplne of the future debtors. Moreover, if the move is intended to give a genuine respite to debtors who are still directly under the bank credit, the ceiling of 2 hectares of land holding is not going to help the distressed Vidarbha farmers who have larger land holdings. On the other hand, in Northern belt, a farmer with holding of 2 hectares is supposed to be doing well.
But, yes, we have to agree that democracy is euphemism for populism which is defined in a dictionary as "The political doctrine that supports the rights and powers of the common people in their struggle with the privileged elite".
