Young graduates look to NGOs for job satisfaction

Work in the social service sector requires a mind-switch. One needs to think service rather than career. There are few things more disgusting than building a career on the miseries of the poor. While the article is good, I think it fails to place the choice of people to eschew the ratrace in the context of the rich tradition of service and struggle that this country offers. Did the Mahatma make a great career choice when he switched from law to activism? There can be other parameters. Those who switch their corporate jobs with obscenely high salaries for NGO jobs with obscenely high (perhaps a few 10,000 rupees lower than corporate) salaries are not really making a mind shift. They are opting for the best of both worlds -- feel good without losing the luxury. This is not the world of the social activist, but of the socialite.
