With no buyers, farmers scramble to recover costs as potatoes perish
Wholesale, spot market prices in UP lower than production costs; cold storage facilities not enough to help farmers

It is an unending suffering for the farmers to sell their produce year after year. Though the government asks them to produce more, they never create proper facilities to market the products. The largest chilli market at Guntur wiped out the future of several farmers. Now the potato farmers are in uncertainity. One solution is use the vast Railway network in India to market products like apples and potatoes during season. Agriculture Ministry and Railway authorities should allow farmers to sell in railway stations in bulk packs to passengers coming to south india. Railways should help farmers as a social necessity to save farmers and rheir families from distress selling and suicides.
