Mumbai: Roland Abella, the chief of Diageo’s Middle East and North African markets, took over the company’s reigns in India after managing director Asif Aadil resigned Wednesday night.
Abella, who was Lebanon-based prior to his current appointment, has joined the firm’s Indian management at a time when the company is in talks to acquire at least 15% stake in Vijay Mallya’s United Spirits Ltd, India’s largest spirits company, in an attempt to make its presence much bigger in the domestic market.
Diageo is the world’s largest spirits manufacturer.
