Bangalore: Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, the hydraulics manufacturing business of Wipro Ltd, said it would set up a factory and research and development unit in China to produce hydraulic cylinders for customers in the world’s largest market for the product.
The unit, to come up at Wujin hi-tech industrial zone in Changzou, will produce the equipment next year, the company said in a statement on Monday. It did not disclose investments.
These cylinders will be used in excavators, loaders, dumpers and other farm equipment.
“The capacity will really depend on the business conditions and the market demand, and since the plant is expected to be operational only in the next 12 months,” Wipro said in an emailed response. It will be Wipro’s ninth factory, and the first in China.
“We would like this unit to develop and expand as a truly global manufacturing hub, not just for the Chinese market but also for customers in this entire region,” said Anurag Behar, Wipro Infrastructure chief executive. It will also set up service network across China for the products.
“We have a domestic customer base in China... Another phenomenon that we have been observing is our other existing clients setting up operations in China,” Wipro said. “In such a scenario, it becomes imperative for us to have a strong presence there.”
