Charles Prince, chairman and chief executive officer of Citigroup Inc., displayed a quick wit, setting the tone for an interactive town-hall meeting with the banking giant’s Indian employees who had completely filled the large Tata Theatre at NCPA Mumbai.
On a whirlwind tour of the country that included private meetings with corporate chieftains as well as key policy makers, Prince took the time to walk employees through Citi’s Asia strategy and how it plans to expand in the region. Prince also fielded questions from employees, who wanted to know how Citi will take on increased competition.
Prince later headed to Delhi, where he talked to the media about specific opportunities in India. He declined to comment on a story in The Wall Street Journal that Citi was going to trim 15,000 jobs to cut costs.
(Mint photographer Madhu Kapparath got the rare opportunity to capture Prince in action in Mumbai.)
