Maruti Suzuki resumes production at Gurgaon and Manesar units
The supply of components has started gradually, the company said in a statement, without disclosing details about production schedule
New Delhi: India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has said that it has resumed vehicle production at its facilities in Gurgaon and Manesar in the second half of Tuesday.
The plants at both Gurgaon and Manesar are surrounded by areas with a sizeable population of Jats who up around a quarter of the population of Haryana. The community has been staging violent protests for more government jobs and college places.
“The supply of components has started gradually," the company said in a statement without disclosing details about production schedule.
Both the plant together makes 5,000 vehicles a day.
Between Saturday and Tuesday, the company is likely to incur a production loss of at least 10,000 vehicles, Mint reported on Tuesday.
However, the firm is expected to ramp up output to make up for the losses when the situation in the Gurgaon-Manesar belt normalizes.
Much like Maruti Suzuki, many of its suppliers operate on a JIT, or just-in-time, basis and their inability to work shifts because of the Jat protests, caused disruptions at India’s largest car maker.
