New Delhi: Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group firm Reliance MediaWorks on Thursday said it has entered into a business alliance with UFO Moviez to establish a platform for digital film releases in the country.
The alliance will help create a strong platform that would enable producers and distributors to start utilising more number of digital screens to ensure a wider release of films, Reliance MediaWorks said in a statement.
UFO Moviez is a leading chain of satellite-based digital cinemas globally and has more than 1,800 screens across India. It beams digitally mastered high quality movie images through satellite directly to cinema halls facilitating wide release of any film without any additional cost in prints.
Under the alliance, UFO Moviez would set up an additional encoding and encryption facility at the premises of Reliance MediaWorks and business engagements with the producers and distributors for this facility would be undertaken by the ADAG firm, the company said.
Besides, UFO would recommend Reliance MediaWorks’ offer for programming services to these cinemas cross the country, it said.
“The company is looking at undertaking around 15 movie digitisation projects on weekly basis,” it further said.
“By combining our unique strengths, Reliance MediaWorks and UFO Moviez will accelerate the creation of a secure digital ecosystem that facilitates a wider reach for digital distribution of movies...with greater reliability and lower costs,” Reliance MediaWorks CEO Anil Arjun said.
Reliance MediaWorks, that also operates cinema chain Big Cinema, will increase digital screens at its halls in India using UFO technologies.
“The alliance would help us focus on our core business of technology development and greater proliferation of digital systems across cinemas,” UFO Moviez India joint MD Kapil Agarwal said.
