Mumbai: Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra today inaugurated its ₹ 50 crore blanking line facility in Nashik to process steel coils for use in automotive body profiles.
The facility, backed by German technology, has been set up by Mahindra Intertrade Limited (MIL), which is a part of the group’s trade and financial services sector.
Besides processing steel coils, MIL’s facility would process rectangular and trapezoidal sheets required for press shop operations, a company release said here.
It will also look at export of profiles to south-east Asia.
“With India becoming a hub for global automotive majors, this new customer-centric initiative from Mahindras will serve the automotive industry’s demand for quality blanked profiles," MIL Chairman Bharat Doshi said.
The facility is strategically located just 25 km from Nashik city in North Maharashtra and is best placed to cater to the automotive belt around Pune.
The plant marks a first, both for M&M and the automotive industry in India as it will be the first and only automotive facility for blanked skin panels in the country.
