Hyderabad: Infrastructure conglomerate GVK Group has agreed to sponsor the Emergency Management and Research Institute, or EMRI, which runs an emergency response ambulance service, the Andhra Pradesh chief minister’s office said in a statement on Tuesday.
EMRI, originally promoted and completely funded by B. Ramalinga Raju, the jailed founder of technology services firm Satyam Computer Services Ltd, operates under a public-private partnership model, with the state government bearing 95% of the operational costs. Raju’s family had borne the rest till Raju confessed to rigging India’s largest accounting fraud at Satyam in January.
The Nicholas Piramal group was also short-listed to sponsor EMRI
