Mumbai: Lucknow-based Sahara Group has taken Jet Airways (India) Ltd to court over non-payment of installments due to them by the Mumbai-based carrier as promised at the time of the Air Sahara acquisition in 2007. “The case has been filed on 26 March, 2009 in Mumbai High Court,” a Sahara official said.
In a statement, Jet Airways said that it has been informed that Sahara Group has moved an application in the Mumbai High Court for executing the award of the arbitrators in the arbitration relating to the take over of Sahara Airline. The Income Tax department has raised certain demand on the Sahara Airline (now JetLite) for the period prior to takeover and unrelated to the activities of JetLite before the takeover. Jet’s stand is that those liability should be borne by Sahara and hence Jet has deducted that amount from the installment payable under the award. “Since the matter is subjudice, we are not making any comment on the merit of this matter,” a Jet executive said.
