Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) has selected Nokia Siemens Networks technology for supply of third generation or 3G telecom equipment. Till date, TTSL is the first one to announce the appointment of an equipment supplier since the auction of 3G spectrum in May.
The telecom operators who have already paid for license fee and spectrum are expected to get the spectrum by September.
“We want to move quickly, which is why we’re the first to secure our key 3G technology and services supplier,” said AG Rao, chief technology officer and president, enterprise business at TTSL, in a statement on Monday.
Nokia Siemens Networks will supply LTE-ready base stations as well as provide network implementation and managed services to ensure a smooth roll-out. The firm claims faster time to market as it has a 3G equipment manufacturing facility at Chennai.
