Bengaluru: Sears Holdings, one of largest retailers by revenue in the US, on Thursday announced plan to open its second technology centre in India at Embassy Tech Park in Bengaluru.

The 15,000 sq ft centre will focus on developing solutions for omni-channel and would open in September. In Omni-channel retail, customers get seamless shopping experience from brick and mortar store to online and mobile device.

This company opened its first technology centre in Pune in 2009 and employs more than 1,000 engineers.

Alok Kumar, who is overseeing Sear’s Pune unit, will also head operations in Bengaluru. Dennis Moore, president of Member Technology at Sears Holdings Corporation, visited the new unit that is currently awaiting regulatory clearances.

“In the last five years, our technology teams in India have generated immense value for Sears Holdings and our members, and with this expansion, we aim at enhancing this value further," he said in a statement.

Once operational, the staff in Bengaluru will work on product and platform development to boost the company’s online and offline retail.

Illinois-based Sears Holdings Corporation is the owner of retail store brands Sears and Kmart and brands such as Craftman, Kenmore and DieHard.
