State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), India’s biggest telephone company, has invited bids from telecom tower firms for providing infrastructure across the country as it seeks to move out of setting up and managing towers on its own, and outsource this.
The ‘expression of interest’, or communication for inviting bids from tower firms, is for more than 500 locations.
Applications are invited from both independent tower firms and telecom tower subsidiaries of rivals Bharti Airtel Ltd and Reliance Communications Ltd by October end. “The agreement with successful bidders will be initially for a period of 15 years extendable by another five years on mutual agreement,” a document, which is available on BSNL’s website, said.
