Rajasthan plans new tax on Cairn, oil producers
New Delhi: Rajasthan government may levy a land use tax on oil and gas producers, including Cairn India Ltd, an official said.
We propose the tax as a rent that the hydrocarbon- producing companies must pay, principal secretary for finance and policy planning C.K. Mathew said over the telephone from Jaipur on Thursday.
The firms are sitting ducks, Sandeep Randery, a Mumbai-based analyst at Brics Securities Ltd, said over the telephone. The state would like to get as much revenue as it can from them.
Cairn India spokesman Manu Kapoor didn’t respond to phone calls.
The government will discuss the proposed law to introduce surface rent during the ongoing assembly session, chief minister Ashok Gehlot had said on Wednesday.
